Tear Trough Filler

The tear trough is the area between your lower eyelid and cheek, and as we age, we can experience volume loss in this area, which can cause dark circles and hollows under the eyes. This is not an uncommon problem and can be treated easily with dermal filler at The Rostra Clinic, which quickly and effectively restores lost volume, and reduces dark circles. It also reduces fine lines and wrinkles as the dermal fillers will boost collagen production by hydrating from the inside. Our expert practitioners will give you natural-looking results with a fresher, less tired-looking appearance.

What Is the Treatment Like?

The filler is injected with a very fine needle or cannula under the skin surface. An anaesthetic cream may be applied to the area for approximately 20 – 30 minutes prior to the treatment. Any discomfort is therefore minimal. Treatments then take about 20 – 30 minutes.

What results can I expect?

The initial results with tear trough dermal fillers are instant but will develop over 10-14 days as the filler settles before the final result is achieved. Afterwards the treated area may be slightly red and/or slightly swollen, however you can resume normal activities, drive yourself home or return to work immediately after the treatment.

How long will the effects last?

This depends on the product used and the structure of your skin. Other factors such as lifestyle, age and the degree of perfection demanded by the individual will also influence the life of the filler. Hyaluronic acid products typically last 6-12 months, Additional touch up treatments can be performed at any time after the initial treatment.

Who is not suitable for treatment?

Dermal fillers have not been tested in pregnant or nursing women, and are therefore not advised. If you have a history of cold sores in the area to be treated, it is advisable that you take anti-herpes medicine (which we will prescribe) before and after the treatment to help reduce the likelihood of an outbreak of cold sores.

Are there any side effects?

Although uncommon, possible adverse effects may include:

INJECTION-RELATED REACTIONS
These reactions may include swelling, redness, discomfort, itching and bruising at the injection site immediately after the treatment. Such reactions are typically mild and resolve within a few hours.

ALLERGIC REACTION
The risk of an allergic reaction is extremely rare and they are usually self-limiting. Allergic reactions can however be treated with oral or injectable corticosteroids or the product removed using an injectable enzyme (hyaluronidase).

INFECTION
As with all injections, this procedure carries a risk of infection. The syringe is sterile and standard precautions associated with injectable materials are always taken.

TYNDALL EFFECT
The Tyndall effect is the appearance of a bluish discolouration at the injection site of dermal filler.  This occurs as a result of light being reflected from particles in the dermal filler product.
